Staying organized while running your personal training business

It’s no easy task to keep yourself organized amongst chaos and a very busy training schedule. But did you know that eight out of ten businesses fail because owners are disorganized? That’s right! The simple fact of being disorganized can have a negative effect on the growth and sustainability of your business.

In order to avoid this common pitfall here are a few tips to keep you organized throughout your day and on the road to success.

1) Deal with emails right away. As soon as you open an email, deal with it. Clear out your inbox and avoid using it to store your old emails. Create folders to keep yourself organized and delete emails as you deal with them.

2) Pick a time to respond to emails. If you are an email junkie and check your inbox every ten minutes then you are waisting a lot of time and simply are not productive. Pick two or three times a day when you check and respond to emails.

3) Avoid multi-tasking. It’s a common misconception that people who multi-task get more done. As a matter of fact, multi-tasking is actually quite distracting because your focus is split between tasks. Do one task at a time and avoid the mistake of multi-tasking.

4) Schedule your day. While things do come up to throw you off your best laid out plans, make an attempt to schedule your top three priorities to complete by the end of the day. By committing to three tasks you are far more likely to get them done and be more productive then if you create a list of twenty action items.

5) Keep your desk tidy. If your desk is a mess you need to clean it up and get organized. Go through the piles on your desk and keep only those papers that you absolutely need. If you haven’t read it or used it in the last three weeks then chances are you don’t need it.

6) Create files for important information. If you have one file for everything then you need to create seperate folders for important documents. Label the folders for quick reference and make sure you go through them every six months keeping only the most relevant information.

These are a few tips to help keep your business organized.

Great points one other thing I would recommend is an online scheduling and billing system. This cuts down on emails as your clients can schedule while you are training other people and it allows you to automate your billing and keep track of all aspects of your business in 1 system. Integration!
